The Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, with the support of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with Art d’Égypte present Geography and Mystery, an exhibition curated by Alessandro Castiglioni and hosted at the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria. The exhibition features the photographic works of renowned Italian artists Marina Ballo Charmet and Stefano Cagol, exploring the intersection of physical geography, history, and the Mediterranean’s past and future.
As part of the second edition of Tales of Two Cities project, the exhibition showcases a dialogue between contemporary Italian photography and Alexandria’s rich archaeological legacy. Drawing inspiration from the city’s pivotal role in the Greek, Roman, and Coptic worlds, the exhibition reflects on how geographic science and history influence our understanding of nature and culture. Castiglioni notes that the works of Ballo and Cagol delve into places’ histories and identities, emphasizing the mystery of the visible and invisible within the context of environmental and climatic shifts.

The exhibition, promoted by The Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, is made possible through the support of the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, as part of the public initiative for the Promotion of Italian Contemporary Photography Abroad and it is organized with the collaboration of the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Alexandria, Egypt.
