Arts (on) Shifting Terrain, the final event of DE.a.RE – DEconstruct and REbuild, a project co-funded by the European Union, will take place on 6th and 7th November 2024 at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Curated by Denise Araouzou, Alessandro Castiglioni, Simone Frangi, and Svetlana Racanović, this event brings together artists, activists, and policy experts to engage in critical discussions around artists’ rights, the impact of AI, and the socio-economic challenges of the contemporary arts sector. Participants will explore topics like intellectual property, the precarious conditions of artistic labor, and the potential for creating community-rooted art economies. A special focus will be placed on reimagining the role of institutions in fostering creative activism, inclusivity, and sustainability in the arts.
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the DE.a.RE Advocacy Campaign, which addresses the working conditions, needs, and concerns of artists across the EuroMed region. Launched by BJCEM and designed by the Latte Creative agency, this campaign aims to raise awareness and influence policy reforms, calling for fair remuneration practices and sustainable funding structures within the cultural sector. The advocacy effort seeks to ensure that artists can thrive and contribute meaningfully to diverse, peaceful, and ecologically conscious societies. The campaign will be discussed during an open session and formally presented at the upcoming BJCEM Assembly.
