scoring for the moment after – ART RESIDENCY AT FABBRICA DEL VAPORE

March 31 – April 5, 2025
Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan

scoring for the moment after is a week-long artistic residency that explores performance as a space for experimentation, collaboration, and process-driven creation. This initiative takes place on the occasion of Milano Art Week 2025 and brings together three artists—Isadora Alves, Alice Capelli, and Belinda Papavasiliou—who will engage in collective research on movement, sound, and performative notation.

Curated by Evagoras Vanezis, the residency focuses on the use of scores—understood as instruction, improvisation, and embodied action—to shape movement, sound, and conceptual engagement. Throughout the residency, the artists will interact with the site-specific context of Fabbrica del Vapore and the exhibition The worlds we are, developing new methodologies for creating, performing, and experiencing live art.

The project explores how notation, repetition, and improvisation can serve both as structural tools and as ways of unsettling artistic practice. By engaging in shared research, movement exercises, sound experimentation, and open-ended performance-making, the artists will investigate different modes of listening, moving, and co-existing in space. Their inquiries will consider the relationship between instruction and spontaneity, the body as a site of memory and transformation, and the ways in which space and context shape performative encounters.

About the participants

Isadora Alves is an actor and artist working across performance, sculpture, film, and writing. Her work often consists of collaborative site-specific performances in outdoor settings, where light occupies the centrality of study. Between performative and visual arts, the encounter of landscape and the human body set the ground for anarchic practices within the act of walking, witnessing, stillness and language. In her pieces, humans are oracles of unknown archives, landscapes are transformed into subject and stage, and concepts such as dwelling, nomadism and intelligence are re-examined. Alves has collaborated with artists, scientists and local communities, documenting the retreat of glaciers such as the Rote Wand, Adamello, and Sólheimajökull, and the on-going volcanic activity in the Reykjanes peninsula. Isadora is a co-founder of the Sympoietic Society.

Alice Capelli‘s research is distinguished by a fluid permeability and an affirmation of existence that, through painting, performance, and sculpture, arises from the desire to leave a visible trace of the body’s passage. What remains of us takes the form of an organic remnant, a metaphorical trace, of which the earth, the sand, and the hair themselves are silent and concrete witnesses of a tangible journey. These elements, in their simplicity, evoke the intimacy of a gesture that becomes memory. In this context, the performative act materializes through works that preserve the marks of an authentic action, where every imperfection, every mistake, is nothing but a testament to the artistic process itself. The tension between the body and its trace, between presence and disappearance, is what makes Capelli’s work a constant and profoundly poetic investigation into being and immanence.

Belinda Papavasiliou is an artist and movement practitioner based in Cyprus. She creates performance works, installations, experimental dance films, curates sensory walks and facilitates open practice sessions and workshops. She also works as a performer, choreographer and movement director collaborating with various artists, cultural collectives and organisations in Cyprus and beyond. Her artistic practice is informed by eco somatics, practicing and working in outdoor environments in all weathers, dance and somatic practices, hiking, bodies coming together (human or other) and notions of time, materiality, reciprocity, and attunement. Belinda’s multidisciplinary approach to creation, often extends the choreographic to other mediums beyond dancing and humans in motion. Creating chaotic relations with body and sites, objects and materials she attempts to activate the sensorial realm and to create environments that can host ephemeral communities and collective participation in co-imagining radical actions and futures.
