Monia Ben Hamouda, participant of the Beyond Boundaries residency, the winner of the 2024 VG Foundation Prize

We are proud that Monia Ben Hamouda, who participated in the Beyond Boundaries residency in January 2024, has been awarded the prestigious Vordemberge-Gildewart Award.
Museion, the museum of modern and contemporary art in Bolzano announced that Monia Ben Hamouda is the winner of the prestigious VG Award of 60,000 CHF presented by the Vordemberge-Gildewart Foundation. The prize is awarded annually by the Foundation, based in Rapperswil, Switzerland, in collaboration with a European exhibition institution to an artist of up to 35 years of age from the selected region. Museion was chosen as the partner for 2024, and the 15 artists in the RENAISSANCE exhibition formed the basis for the selection of the winner by an independent international jury. The exhibition is exploring themes such as ritual, spiritual practices, migration stories, and the reevaluation of pervasive cultural images. Through diverse mediums like sculpture, installations, painting, drawing, video, photography, and performance, the artists dismantle and reconstruct dominant aesthetic and social representations, infusing them with new meanings.

Monia’s installations Resisting (Aniconism as Figuration Urgency) and About Telepathy and other Violences lI (Aniconism as Figuration Urgency) are currently on view in RENAISSANCE at Museion.
In addition to Monia Ben Hamouda, another featured artist in the exhibition is Binta Diaw, who has previously participated in the BJCEM activities.
Selected works that Monia Ben Hamouda  developed during the Beyond Boundaries residency were also on display at miart – Milan’s international modern and contemporary art from the 12th until 14th of April.
The exhibition Renaissance is open until the 1st September 2024 at Museion.
