Meet the UK young artists of Mediterranea 17 Young Artists Biennale

At Mediterranea 17 Young Artists Biennale, UK Young Artists will showcase diverse and exceptional works from some of the UK’s best young creative talent at the leading edge of contemporary art and performance. Take a look at our unpredictable world through the eyes of someone who is afraid of pretty much everything in Little Terrors, and attend a troubling yet ordinary lecture of nonsense, playing on the oddities of managing time in Fill in the ______ by performance artists Madeline Shann and Katherine Hall. Fill your senses with the sounds of India in tabla virtuoso Gurdain Rayatt’s Flashy Fingers, and the scents of Wales in Alexander Duncan’s sculptural installation, Cove, comprising 10,000 pieces of sea foam from the beaches of Swansea. Bombard your senses with high-energy dance from What is Written and feast your eyes on stunning photography series’ by Beth Kane, Anna White and Sam Laughlin. Get lost in fantasy as Sandra Fruebing challenges common sense and attempts to walk on water in her touching and quirky film, The Individual’s Pursuit, and experience Eluned Glyn’s nostalgic ceramics, Minimus Maximus, where 19th Century pieces meet innovative contemporary design and unloved ceramics find a new lease of life.
The presence of UK Young Artists at the Mediterranea 17 Young Artists Biennale is supported by funding from Arts Council England (ACE). In June 2015, UK Young Artists received funding to support an expanded and enhanced programme of activity. This will include its attendance at the BJCEM Biennales both in October 2015 and again in 2017 with a new group of the UK’s most talented artists, who will be selected from the participants in the UK Young Artists Derby Festival 2016.
