CIMINIERE

Collective Imaginaction about work in Civita Castellana

A project by Cantieri d’Arte and Associazione Culturale Percorsi (Circolo ARCI) in collaboration with Laboratorio Urbano Quotidiano, Museo della Ceramica Marcantoni, SIAT Servizi, Liceo artistico U.Midossi and Fabbriche Artceram, Flaminia.

Ciminiere is a project promoted by Cantieri d’Arte which intends to meditate on the collective imagination about work in Civita Castellana through workshops and artistic residences in the framework of Officina Culturale Distretto Creativo program.

The project will start on 9 April at 5.00 p.m. with the opening exhibition of the results of Cosimo Veneziano’s residence, the guest artist of this first edition of Ciminiere.

The artist’s residency will take place from April 1st at the Museo della Ceramica C. Marcantoni and it will be focused on the connection between the manufacturing production and landscape’s modifications occured in one of the most important Italian district of ceramic sanitary ware production. It will include meetings and interviews with experts in the field of ceramic industry, witnesses of a rich and illustrious history of ceramic production that lead to a big industrial development of the area during the 70s and the 80s.

Ciminiere is a project developed thanks to Officina Culturale Distretto Creativo (20chiaviteatro association) in the framework of Storie di Lavoro, a festival which brings art in workplaces.

The project’s aim is to meditate on the history of the territory, its modifications, and its current landform by creating a sculpture which denotes the historical economic cycle of industries in Civita Castellana. A sculpture in ceramic which traces the appearance of an industrial plant. It is divided into four different parts glazed in different ways. The sculptures will be placed in a former Church that now is an evocative exhibition space of ArtCeram.

The artist’s will involve in the production of the sculpture some factories and some workmen of the almost passed away dishes factories of the area. In this way, Cosimo Veneziano works on an abandoned landscape, a geography of the economic history of XX Century made of abandoned structures and industrial plants that are typified the idea of factories in the new generations.

Beside the artist’s residence, Laboratorio Urbano Quotidiano (a union of architects and town planners) will spread a survey on the perception of factories between different generations, and will organise a workshop with the students of Liceo U. Midossi of Civita Castellana. The results of the workshop will be presented during the Opening Exhibition.

Ciminiere opens a rich program of artistic residencies in the Tuscia Area promoted by Cantieri d’Arte.
