ART SHAKES THE POLITICS FOR EXTENDING THE BORDERS OF FREEDOM

The Office Promotion Young Artists of the Municipality of Messina, Italy, proposes to countries adhering to the Bjcem International Association, a workshop addressed to young artists selected for Visual Art. Linked to the 13th edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, as in past editions the workshop wants favorite the meeting between young people coming from many Mediterranean countries and it aims to the exchange of cultural and innovative heritages of the provenance countries. A workshop as a path towards the sharing of an experience of knowledge, of innovative and experimental planning. The workshop foresees the creation of an art book for each participant, to be realized and presented in the 13th edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.

Why- to create a chance of cultural and professional growth related to the theme of the 13th edition of the Biennale:
Individuation of the Kairos, the moment when the change is possible

The workshop Art Shakes the Politics wants identify the actions which make the change possible. Starting by the principle that the culture reinforce the civil society,especially in developing countries of the Mediterranean area. The cultural activism creates alternative networks and structures, favorites the individual participation in politics, strengthens democratic institutions and favorites the aggregation. How can artists cause social and political changes? Through a process created by their imagination and by their visionary ability, through their attitude to the cultural performance, a method maybe not so scientific, but very narrow to that clear madness which provokes the haywire of the human intuition.

RESEARCH - IN YOUR COUNTRY
data collection on your own country (to be prepared before the workshop)

We ask you to look into those symbols and national values which create the collective thought and the ill-famed concept of identity. The Object is to give a version of your country's culture far from the stereotypes usually built by the communication, all that always remembering that none culture is self-sufficient. Please collect, and bring with you to the workshop, some materials for each category written below: impressions, episodes, emblematic events, testimonies, objects, texts, pictures, videos, booklets, news articles, interviews, etc. and any other things that you consider useful without any restriction, to testify a fact that in your opinion is positive and an other that for you is negative referring to six thematic areas. It's to say: six collections of documentaries materials and six schedules for the positive examples, and six collections of documentaries materials and six schedules for the negative examples.

On the basis of your researches in your country, you should elaborate what you wish conserve or change, build or rebuild of your culture: this analysis will be the basis for the preparation of your book, which will be the final result of the workshop. The aim is to interfere against negative values of politics described by you and then to promote their positive valued.

CULTURE ACTIVISM - ART BOOK

Your ART-BOOK, in 20 x 30 cm size with paperback cover, will be made during the workshop following the aims to be pursuit and the collected materials and it may contain anything: projects for installations, sculptures, paintings, poetries, performances, video storyboards, graffiti, stickers, project plans, brochures, under the condition that it could start or fire a reflection in an ironic, critical, allegorical, romantic, gothic way, because it's not only a book, but it's what you think of your country and it will be useful to increase the rise of new sensibilities. We will be engaged in supporting you for any technical need, in the paging and editing of two copies for each book: one copy will last to you at the end of the workshop, the other will be exhibited in many events (among which also the 13th edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in a space dedicated to our workshop).

Lecture and Film Program
The workshop foresees 20 lectures and meetings with experts of the field which will happen in the scheduled week, divided in sections of 3-4 meetings for thematic area.

Exhibition
The ART-BOOKS, projects and the thematic results of the workshop will be set up and exhibited during the 13th edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.
