Chaos and cosmos between Giudecca and San Lorenzo
05/05 - 12/05/2003
Giudecca - Venice/ San Lorenzo - Rome

Zone Attive, on behalf of the Municipality of Rome and Short in Venice, on behalf of the Municipality of Venice, are organising an audio-visual workshop Chaos and Cosmos between Giudecca and San Lorenzo which will be held in May. The final product of the workshop will be a film to be presented during the Biennial edition of Athens.
Giudecca is a district/island of Venice and San Lorenzo is a district of Rome. Both are central but peripheral areas, global but local realities, in the middle of important transformations that are changing both districts. Ten young filmmakers will be hosted in the two cities in order to work on a film about these two realities.

International Audiovisual Workshop

The workshop will involve ten young artists, chosen in the selection for Athens Biennial and will last eight days. The young artists will work between the territorial reality, diving between Venice and Rome, with deep stages and meeting with experts. It is attempted to get the essence of these two neighbours, of these two territories half way between centre and suburbs, between tradition and innovation, multiethnic and richness of culture, with a strong presence of artists and students, university departments, where great architectural and social transformation has left a sign. The tutor, Davide Ferrario, will coordinate the workshop, by artistic supervision. He'll develop the project together with the organizers.
During the days of the shooting, the applicants will be put under the condition of developing synergies and face reality unknown to them, through the contact with series of subjects and situations, existing in the territories.
The goal is to accomplish a short movie which will be presented in Athens and which will also circulate outside the Biennial network.
