Councillor for Youth /Valencia City Hall
Beatriz Simón Castellets studied Law at the University of Valencia.
In 1999 she was elected as city councilwoman and was in charge of the Office for Health, Youth and Consumer Affairs, being re-elected for the last two terms until the present.
During her term of office as Councillor for Youth, she drove Valencia City Hall's participation after a nine-year hiatus in the biannual event of Young Creators in Europe and the Mediterranean, taking part in the biannual editions of Sarajevo (2001), Athens (2003) and Naples (2005).
In 2005, coinciding with the Presidency of the City Hall in the National Spanish Committee at the Biannual edition of Young Creators in Europe and the Mediterranean, she organised a national scale Pre-biannual named "Spanish Passion", which turned out to be an event with enormous participation by both the public and artists; the result of which was a catalogue that included all the artists who attended the event.
During her mandate at City Hall she organised a competition for young creators known as Valencia Crea, which has become one of the most consolidated events in the Valencian Community.
What started as a local level competition is now a national scale event with a National Prize in addition to a Valencia Prize, and a growing number of participating exhibitors which reflects its short but stellar rise in importance, as well as the excellent acceptance that it has had among young people.
With this year's event, the Youth Council Office aims at awarding young creators by supporting them and promoting their artistic creations both in Spain and abroad, through the participation of young artists in the Biannual International Edition of Young Creators from Europe and the Mediterranean.
In 2003 she set in motion a Foundation committed to the promotion of the performing arts (theatre, music and dance) named Fundación VEO ("Valencia Open School" Foundation), with the aim of promoting and bringing performing arts closer to citizens, to support and promote young students and professionals in the sector.
