Established in 1987, The National Center for Culture & Performing Arts (PAC) of King Hussein Foundation is a pioneer and unique institution in Jordan that aims to develop awareness and understanding of the value of the arts in the educational and social development process. It serves as a national resource and a regional model for incorporating the performing arts in all levels of education to enhance the personal academic and cultural development of children and youth.

The PAC cooperates closely with the Jordanian public and private sector and has received valuable recognition and support from regional and international organizations including UNICEF, UNESCO, US AID, JAICA and the European Union which has supported the PAC in implementing a multi media regional program for the past 3 years, promoting the values of democracy and human rights for children and youth.

The Theatre Department at the PAC provides professional training for children and youth in theater arts according to the curriculum of and accredited by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. The Dance Department provides professional training in all forms of dance: ballet, contemporary dance and folklore, and is accredited by the Royal Academy of Dance - Great Britain. In addition to the above, the in-house Production Department publishes printed material, produces short documentaries and entertainment educational programs for television.

The PAC professional Theater in Education (TIE) troupe produces plays that deal with contemporary issues related to comprehensive socioeconomic development utilizing the TIE methodology. Plays produced include: Unemployment & the Culture of Shame, Entrepreneurship, Conflict Resolution, Child Labour, Water Conservation, Intergenerational Dialogue and Youth's Rights and Responsibilities. The PAC TIE troupe tours to remote rural areas in the Hashemite Kingdom reaching all sectors of society in addition to touring regionally and internationally. The estimated number of audiences that directly benefited from this program is 600,000.

The PAC dance troupe performs extensively in Jordan and abroad combining the traditional Jordanian culture and heritage within a modern and professional context that embodies the spirit of history and modernity. The dance troupe pioneered the utilization of various forms of dance to reflect social and contemporary issues. The theater and dance troupes annually produce professional musicals that have won several international awards in addition to children Puppet Theater.

The PAC hosts the annual Arab Children Congress which was initiated by HM Queen Noor in 1981 in a program that gathers 4 children from each Arab country for a week of visiting, learning and cultural interaction especially designed to promote peace, understanding tolerance and solidarity amongst the Arab youth.

The PAC has established a wide network with various regional and international organizations such as, The Finnish Mime Center, The Higher Council for Children in Lebanon, Al Fardaws Foundation in Syria, The Alexandria Library in Egypt, and conducts regular cultural exchange programs in theater and dance and is a member of The International Association of Theater for Children and Young people (ASSITEJ ),The International Center for Theater in Education (ICTIE)/ United Kingdom, The Hague Appeal for Peace Advisory Board for Peace Education, New York - USA, The International Association for the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM) - Athens, Greece and The Arab Alliance of Women in Music / Jordan.
