The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art was founded in 1948. It collects and preserves the works of Croatian and foreign artists of 20th century. Besides this, it also collects the works of artists who lived in Rijeka from the end of 19th and up to the middle of 20th century. The treasures of The Museum of Modern Art are deposited into five collections. Due to the lack of exhibiting space there is no permanent exhibition. The works from the collections are exhibited occasionally at the thematic and monographic exhibitions. The exhibition programme of the Museum of Modern Art in Rijeka focuses on the presentation of phenomena in the contemporary art. The work of modern and renowned artists is exhibited as well as that of young artists from Croatia and abroad. Since 1960 every other year we have been organizing the Biennial of the Young Artists that in 1993 became an international exhibition of the authors from the Mediterranean countries. Since 1990 the Museum has been presenting the creations of young Croatian artists at the Biennial of the Young Artists of Europe and Mediterranean. Since 1968. we have been presenting the International Exhibition of Drawings.

Le Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain Art fut fondé in 1948. Il collecte et sauvegarde les oeuvres d'artistes croates et étrangers du 20e siècle. Par ailleurs, il collectionne les ouvres d'artistes originaires de Rijeka, depuis la fin du 19e siècle et jusque le milieu du 20e siècle.

Les trésors du Musée d'Art Moderne, sont conservés dans cinq collections. En raison du manque d'espaces d'exposition, il n' y a pas d'exposition permanente. Les oeuvres des collections sont exposées périodiquement, lors d'expositions thématiques et monographiques.

Les expositions du Musée d'Art Moderne de Rijeka sont particulièrement axées sur la présentation des phénomènes, dans l'art contemporain. Les travaux d'artistes modernes et renommés, sont présentés, de la même façon, que ceux de jeunes artistes croates ou étrangers.

Depuis 1960, nous avons participé à l'organisation de la Biennale des Jeunes Artistes de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée, qui est devenue, en 1993 une exposition internationale d'auteurs des pays de la Méditerranée. Depuis 1990, le Musée a présenté les créations de jeunes artistes Croates à la Biennale. Depuis 1968, nous présentons l'Exposition Internationale de dessins.
