The Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture bear the main responsibility for expressing the State's cultural policy with regard to contemporary culture and play a particularly important role in shaping the country's cultural character. They are responsible for developing Arts and Letters in Cyprus, for enhancing and promoting our cultural identity and heritage, informing and inviting the public to participate in cultural affairs and promoting the achievements of cultural activity in Cyprus abroad.

The Service was established in 1965 under the name Educational Service and succeeded the Department of Intellectual - Cultural Development. In 1992, it was renamed Cultural Services and upgraded to a Department.

The Cultural Services participate actively in shaping and implementing State cultural policy. They cover a wide range of activities including, inter alia, the following areas: literature, book publications, theatre, cinema, plastic arts, music, dance, folklore and cultural heritage.

They organize important intellectual and artistic events in Cyprus and abroad and promote the participation of creators in international events abroad. Among others, they also organize quality events in Cyprus, undertake the publication of important books which foster our country's intellectual and artistic creation and are responsible for providing State aid to artists in all areas of artistic creation and expression.

Le Service Culturel du Ministère de l' Education et de la Culture est chargé d'exprimer les directives de l'Etat, en matière de politiques culturelles et joue un rôle particulièrement important, quant aux orientations culturelles générales du pays. Ils sont responsables du développement des Arts et des Lettres en Chypre, pour dynamiser et promouvoir notre identité culturelle et notre héritage, informant et invitant le public à participer aux affaires culturelles et à promouvoir la diffusion de la culture chypriote à l'étranger.

Le Service a été crée en 1965 sous le nom de Service Educatif et a succédé au Département du Développement Intellectuel et Culturel. En 1992, il a été renommé Service des Affaires Culturelles et est devenu un département à part entière.

Le Service Culturel participe activement à la mise en place des politiques culturelles nationales. Il couvre un large éventail d' activités parmi lesquelles: littérature, publication de livres, théâtre, cinéma, arts plastiques, musique, danse, folklore ainsi que héritage culturel.

Il organise d'importants évènements intellectuels et artistiques en Chypre et à l'étranger et promeut la participation d'artistes à des manifestations internationales. Il a également organisé des événements de qualité en Chypre, a entrepris la publication d'importants livres relatifs aux mouvements et aux créations intellectuelles et artistiques de la Chypre.
Il est enfin, responsable des subventions de l'Etat en direction des créations et de l'expression artistique.
