The Creativity and Innovation Office of the City of Turin provides daily advisory services and information regarding regulatory aspects and professional opportunities in various sectors of arts. One of the main aspects of the work, carried out by the Office, is the management of a database and filing materials regarding creative young people in order to: establish a direct, fully-fledged relationship with the artists, document and provide services, allow research and consultation with experts and operators in various areas, promote the circulation of news and events.

Nuovi Arrivi, a presentation platform dedicated to the new authors who use different forms of contemporary expressive language in unusual ways, is one of the main annual events in the visual arts sector, staged by the Office in co-operation with the Region of Piedmont. As part of the Nuovi Arrivi (New Arrivals) project, the structure presents Farsi Spazio / giovani artisti per luoghi non comuni (House Room /Young artists in not such ordinary places). A review launched in 1995 with the view of deploying knowledge and appreciation of contemporary art to an audience of non-experts. The works, designed for the occasion, are presented case by case in non-conventional situations and in spaces where contact with art may come as a surprise.

Regarding the Music Project, activities are focused on promoting emerging groups from the City and Region with various actions, such as Stati Generali del Rock , linked to the national circuit of Arezzo Wave. Every two years, the Office also produces the Guida della Musica in Piemonte , containing information and data about musicians, schools, associations and facilities focusing on music in the Region. The online version of the guide, a database with information updated in real time, is due to come on stream in the near future.

Concerning the cinema, the main initiatives of the Mediateca del Cinema Indipendente includes the organisation of Dietro la cinepresa , a series of meetings with cinema and multi-media experts, the production of the backstage of films shot in Turin, the publication of books dedicated to the arts and crafts and history of the cinema.

The Creativity and Innovation Office also acts as National Secretariat of the GAI ? Associazione per il Circuito dei Giovani Artisti Italiani (the Circuit of Young Italian Artists) for the City of Turin. The aim of the GAI, which among its members has 39 public authorities, is to support the creativity of young people through training, promotion and research projects. Through the GAI, the Office stages Gemine Muse/giovani artisti nei Musei italiani (Gemine and Muses - Young artists in Italian museums) and participates in the Movin?Up project, intended to support world-wide mobility of artists. It also takes part in the MAP residences program of the Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes network. The Office also hosts the organisational structure of BIG Torino, a biennial appointment that gives front stage to artistic creativity and innovation. Two editions have been held so far: in 2000, 520 artists from all over Europe and from China, the first country to host this biennial event, flocked to Turin; in 2002, the stage management of Michelangelo Pistoletto imbued the event with a particularly eloquent, highly significant theme: BIG Social Game, and invited 150 creative young people to participate with ad hoc productions in the area of the City and in that extension of space that is the Internet. We are working on the opening of a factory dedicated to inter-disciplinary works and to contemporary artistic research in the near future.
